University of Toronto Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Department is actively engaged in a wide range of observational and theoretical research and offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, as well as a wide range of graduate and undergraduate courses. Together with our sibling units, the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) and Dunlap Institute for Astronomy & Astrophysics (Dunlap), there are close to 100 faculty members, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students here that make up a lively and diverse atmosphere in research, teaching and outreach.

The library was founded in 1935 along with the David Dunlap Observatory. Its primary mandate is to serve the research and reference needs of faculty and graduate students of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Dunlap Institute and the staff of CITA / ICAT (the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics).

The collection consists of approximately 25,000 volumes and is primarily devoted to astronomy and astrophysics material. It does include physics, mathematics and computer science materials of interest to astronomers and astrophysicists.
